The name Grässlin has a long tradition. Even though working conditions, locations and the technologies have changed, innovation and quality have always been closely associated with the Grässlin name.
Success story right from the start!
1956 – The beginning
In 1956, Dieter Grässlin founded the company of the same name with the aim of giving new impetus to precision engineering. The entrepreneur began his business in the laundry room of his parents-in.law. However, he also quickly realised that, as a supplier, economic fluctuations could threaten the company´s existence.
1963 – First success
The first major order came with the newly developed operating hours counter, which proved to be superior to the competition in many ways. Other innovations such as time switches and the venture into plastics technology contributed to the company´s success.
1982 – international markets
In 1982, the constantly growing international business prompted Grässlin to establish its first branches in the USA and France. Also, the joint subsidiary Grässlin Far East was founded together with the Taiwanese company COSTA.
1985 – Digital times
New requirements constantly led to further pioneering developments. In 1985, the new fully electronically controlled time switches, as well as a series of room thermostats and the first digital electronically controlled plug-in timer were created.
A new era
After several years in the hands of foreign corporations, production was outsourced and many already feared the end of the Grässlin quality brand. Nonetheless, the name continued to enjoy a high reputation throughout the world. Therefore, Theben AG founded Grässlin Zeitschalttechnik GmbH as an independent company within its own group of companies. In this way, Grässlin successfully returned to his roots.
